Cybertruck Now Available for Order Without Reservation for the First Time

For the first time, you can purchase a Tesla Cybertruck without needing to pay a $250 deposit or wait for an email invitation.

According to Electrek, Tesla has cleared its Cybertruck waitlist, which may have exceeded 2 million at one point, based on data from a community-sourced spreadsheet. The “Design your Cybertruck” page indicates availability for November with no mention of reservations, meaning you could have one in less than a month if you place your order now.

However, don’t anticipate seeing a surge of Cybertrucks on the streets. Quarterly US EV sales data reveals that Tesla has delivered only about 28,250 Cybertrucks since they debuted in November 2023, making it the third best-selling electric vehicle in the US, following the Model Y and Model 3, according to research from Cox Automotive, as reported by Teslarati.

Electrek points out that if 1 million people reserved a Cybertruck, it suggests that only about 3% of preorders have converted into actual sales. One potential factor affecting sales could be the price: when Tesla CEO Elon Musk first teased the $40,000 EV truck in 2019, its eventual launch came with a starting price of over $60,000. Currently, the order page lists the starting price at $74,490. Additionally, Electrek notes that some customers may be deterred by Musk’s real-life behavior.

In the meantime, many highly publicized technical issues have impacted the Cybertruck. In 2024 alone, it has faced five recalls, addressing problems with the rearview camera, warning lights, accelerator pedal, front windshield wiper, and trunk bed trim.
