LASG Calls for Action on Cybersecurity as Awareness Month Begins

The Lagos State Government is joining the global community in commemorating the 2024 Cybersecurity Awareness Month, urging everyone to prioritize online safety. The government emphasized that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, the government highlighted its plans to mark the month by underscoring the increasing importance of cybersecurity in the lives of individuals and businesses.

Signed by the Commissioner, Mr. Tubosun Alake, the statement revealed that the theme for this year, “Secure Our World,” will guide activities throughout the month. The goal is to promote cybersecurity best practices and encourage collective action to combat cyber threats by taking daily steps to secure online environments and ensure safety.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to cybersecurity, emphasizing that the government treats it as a top priority. Earlier this year, Lagos made history as the first state in Nigeria to establish an advisory board dedicated to providing oversight and guiding the government, through the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, on cybersecurity best practices. This initiative aims to ensure a secure and technologically advanced Lagos.

The 2024 Cybersecurity Awareness Month, running throughout October, is a call to action from the Lagos State Government for all residents and organizations to take simple yet effective steps to protect themselves and their businesses from online threats.

The statement emphasized: “From mobile devices to smart home technologies, digital tools are deeply integrated into our lives. While emerging technologies offer tremendous benefits, they also create new opportunities for malicious actors to disrupt online activities at home, school, or work.”

The Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology will provide valuable information, tips, and strategies via social media, TV, and radio interviews, helping individuals and businesses in Lagos safeguard their digital assets against the ever-evolving cyber threats.
